Hull History Centre/Local Research
« on: Tuesday 08 May 12 21:30 BST (UK) »
Hi There,

Anyone live near the Hull History Centre or plan on visiting it in the next few weeks?

I would be interested to hear from you likewise if you conduct local research of the Hull area.

I am interested in one page from the Hull Daily Mail of 1947, this page could open the door!

Difficult to research such things from NZ so any help from local researchers would be most welcome.

Hi,

If there are no local Rootschatters;   have you considered contacting the History Centre direct?

Last year I had a couple of items from their records copied and posted to me.  Very helpful and efficient service.   :)

Hi Nanny,

I was hoping to find someone who knows the ropes and will know where to find such local information and get results.

I once knew a very capable lady who helped me with research but sadly she does not undertake projects any more. She was also very fair with costs and postage.

It's a shame sites don't operate like Kew where parties can pay on-line and get the research straight away.
Cost I know.

Thanks though Nanny, good to know that The Hull Centre is customer focused.

Regards,
Chris.

The Hull Daily Mail images for many years including all of 1947 are now online at the British Newspaper Archive site. It is a subscription site but I regard it as money well spent as I have found many stories of relatives on the pages so far listed.
I am also looking for a researcher who can look through a couple of years worth of the Crew Lists held at the Hull History Centre, if anyone has any suggestions. The HHC are unable to do it for me and as I live in Cornwall it is a bit of a trek.
Hope this helps

Hi,

Have you found the info you require?

If not do you have a date in 1947 for the Hull Daily Mail and what info you require - I may be able to help as I might be going to the Hull History centre tomorrow (25/5). Or alternatively I may be going to the Beverley Treasure House (not sure which yet - hopefully one of them) think Beverley have the Hull Daily Mail microfilms as well.

Hi Kev,

Is this for myself or the person who lives in Cornwall?

Cheers.

If It is for me..... I went on to a site and purchased the page that had a wee bit about the Chum Fletcher in question.

No other information about him or the Hull Branch O.C.A. though.......so if you or anyone can help with that I would be most grateful.

Cheers.

Hi,

It was yours I was replying too, affraid I wouldn't have time to have a look through a couple of years of crew lists tomorrow ;D - glad you got the page you wanted. Hadn't seen your other thread, not sure how I missed that one - any other lookups you require?
