3 Kensington Place, St Helier, Jersey
« on: Monday 14 May 12 12:18 BST (UK) »
After many years researching my Duffy relatives in Co Cork, I have been sent a copy of a letter with the above address, sent to , I believe, my great aunt Theresa. The letter is signed by 'Anne', no surname or date, but she signs off as a cousin, so her surname could be Duffy. Of course, I would have no idea of any married name...

Is it possible to find out the inhabitants of this address from, say, the 1930s to the 1960s? From the letter it looks like the house is a hotel or guest house called " St Ives"

All advice gratefully received: this is a new branch of my tree, and she mentions other relatives, so it is all quite exciting!

In 1941 the property was occupied by a Harriet Gould née Laurence or Laurens, born 6/3/1872. At some other point it was occupied by a John Machon who died in 1970.
Harriet's husband, who died in 1944 was Henry Alexander Dunstan Gould.

Give me a few days and I'll have a look in the Almanacs and Rate Books of the period

Thank you for this quick reply.

I have just realised Anne may not even own the business, she could be a housekeeper perhaps.
I would be very grateful for anything you can find.

Sorry there's no sign of any Ann, Annie or Duffy that I can find at that address. As you say as a non- ratepayer she would not have been listed.

Thanks for looking. It's always good to have a mystery woman in one's family tree!
