Woburn baptism about 1822
« on: Wednesday 16 May 12 10:16 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a relative who states her POB on many of the censuses is, Woburn, Bedfordshire.
Sarah Elizabeth Bravery daughter of Benjamin & Elizabeth.  Her DOB varies between 1820 & 1823 but the average is 1822.
If anyone has the means I would be grateful for a look-up,

Jane

Woburn baptisms have been extracted onto the IGI, but there are no Braverys. As other children seem to have been born in London, and the family then turned up in Brighton perhaps they travelled around a bit. What was Benjamin's occupation?

Hi

Just pulling notes together and (not) thinking out aloud .....

Sarah [Clover] was living 1871/81 with [unmarried] Martha Elizabeth Bravery b1812 Whitechapel. Her big sister(?)

Martha Elizabeth Bravery
Parents:    Benjamin Bravery / Elizabeth Bravery
Baptism:    9 Aug 1812 - St Mary, Whitechapel, Middlesex, England

(Also family
Henry Bravery
Parents:    Benjamin Bravery / Elizabeth Bravery
Baptism:    19 Aug 1810 - St Bartholomew the Great, London, England}

Sarah died 1914 in "Brighton" having lived there from "1841", after marriage in 1838/Croydon.
Sarah's birth has been annotated as "Woburn" in various spellings until her last which pointed to just "Oxfordshire".

The Bravery family seem spread (only) from The City to Sussex.
Why would Sarah say Woburn?  ..... Beds
Why would her sister "hear her say Woburn"? ..... Beds
Is there an area London southwards sounding like "Woburn"?
(and census enumerator added "Beds")

Sorry, I didn't realise they were on IGI, I should have checked more thoroughly.
Yes you're right her three siblings were born in London.  Two I have found (Henry & Martha Elizabeth) but her sister, Ellen & Sarah Elizabeth remain unfound, that's why I turned my attention to Woburn.
Benjamin was a carpenter/cabinet maker from Dorking, Surrey.
Only in 1861 does she say she was born in Limehouse, London so perhaps that's where I should go next,

Jane

Ray.  See above but yes, I'm scratching my head as to why she seems to think she was born in Woburn, Beds on 4 censuses.  The 1911 which says Oxfordshire I can understand as that was filled out by the landlady, Sarah Bohler, perhaps a genuine mistake as Sarah was very advanced in age!

Hi

I would have said to look in Limehouse first.
When was Ellen born?

Hi Ray,
Ellen could have been born anywhere between 1819 to 1824.
1851 - 1820
1861 - 1821
1871 - 1819
1881 - 1824
1891 - 1820
1901 - 1820
1911 - 1820
DOB at death - 1820 so the average looks about 1820.

Just a thought but might the family have been living in the vicinity of Woburn Place or suchlike - the Russell estate properties - in London?

Or might her father have been working in Woburn for a short time between censuses and that's when she was born - maybe he was working on Woburn Abbey or one of the desirable residencies in Woburn.
