COMPLETED Marriage Cert content: 1844 Birkenhead, Holy Trinity
« on: Friday 18 May 12 22:41 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am a newcomer to family searches.

Can anyone advise me what information I could expect to find if I ordered a Marriage certificate from 1844 pertaining to Birkenhead Holy Trinity.  I have located the record I need in the index but I am on a tight budget so want to be reasonably sure it will tell me at least some useful details about the parents of both bride and groom.  Could someone with experience in this era and location help by setting my expectations!?  :)

Many thanks.
Steve

it should state the father of both bride and groom and their occupations (it will not however give you the mothers names)
it should also tell you the occupation of the groom and whether he was of full age or a minor
it will also tell you whether bride/groom were bachelor/spinster or widowed
and the names of the witnesses to the marriage
cattell,alcester
vickers,sulgrave
hewish,holborn
manley,bethnal green
barnes,bassingbourn

It may be possible to get a photocopy/print/scan  from the parish register rather than the GRO certified copy.

Look at the Birkenhead records office site to see if they can offer this service.
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Familysearch has transcriptions of most Cheshire Parish Registers

and Findmypast has images

Many thanks all for the helpful (and quick!) answers.
As a result I was able to obtain an image of the record from findmypast.
Most grateful.
