Daisy Bridges Great Glemham
« on: Saturday 19 May 12 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hey  :)

I am looking for any information on Daisy Bridges (b1892) daughter of William (b1853) and Emma Noble (b1851) of Great Glemham Suffolk,

Daisy Bridges was the birth mother of my Grandfather (Robert Turner Bridges - who become Robert Turner Coe) who was born in 1924 in Ipswich and adopted at 4 yrs old, but I'm fairly sure that this was not done in a legal manner.

I'm desperate to find out what happened to her after she gave him up and to find out who the father was as this isn't on his birth certificate,

Any help would be so appreciated,
Vicky x

Formal adoption didn't commence, in England & Wales, until 1927.

So you cannot say it wasn't done in a legal manner - it was just the usual informal adoption, the same as more than 90% of adoptions.

Hey  :)

Thank you Rosie, I know that she did work in London as a servant when my grandfather was adopted so I guess it is possible that she stayed there, but do you know of any way I can find out for certain? (I'm new to all this)

Thank you for your help,
Vicky

If it is her death certificate then it will show when and where she died, cause of death - name and address of informant.  Sometimes this information is a great help but if she died in hospital or a 'home' the informant could be a doctor or similar. I am afraid that it would purely be a gamble as to whether it is your Daisy.

Have you any idea where in London she worked as she could appear on electoral registers though they don't give details such as age and place of birth.

Rosie

Okay thank you so much, I'll definitely look into the death certificate.

I know that she worked at 52 Pont Street in London around 1927 because we have letters which link to the adoption showing that.

Hello Vicky,

I am in touch with two Bridges researchers who hail from the Great Glemham branch.

I have just checked my details and can find your Daisy's parents on my family tree.

There are a few of us researching this Bridges line.  Our line stayed in Framlingham but your branch went over to the Glemhams.

We have the family back to the late 1400s in Syleham Suffolk/Brockdish Norfolk.  Started researching when my husband and I became engaged - that was over forty years ago!

Will send you a PM cousin  ;)

Pat ...

Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Hi Pat,

That's so great that Daisy's parents are on your tree, do you know anything about her at all?

And wow you have been researching for a quite sometime, you must have a lot of people in your family tree!  :) I've still got so much I want to find out, so any tips would be amazing  :)

I look forward to hearing from you,
Vicky

Research began on the day my parents came to Framlingham to meet my mother in law when John and I became engaged.  We were walking around the town when my father noticed several headstones with the name Bridges, under a Yew tree in the churchyard.

We began by searching through the parish records and noting every occurence of the name Bridges in the town.  Our branch moved here in 1723, we moved back a few months ago  ;)

Will PM details of your more direct 'cousins' with email addresses.

Many years ago we had a meeting* at our home of the various Bridges of Fressingfield/Framlingham researchers - including two from the USA (your branch).  The Glemham/Framlingham branches meet up in 1690 at Cratfield and then we can trace back to the 1400s.

Pat ...

* just noticed it was in 1999  ::)
