Birth Lookup, Sumpter at Great Melton

if you haven,t already it  will pay you to get his birth cert at least from that you will get his mothers name , this looks like the reg details , charles albert sumpter reg dist henstead  sapt qtr vol 4b page 183 .

Many thanx, Trevor.  Will follow up with ordering copy of birth certificate.  However, would the birth not registered be in the Great Melton parish records?

just had a look in family search at the norfolk parish records for gt melton and can,t see charles in them are you absolutely certain he was actually born in melton or are you going by the 1901 cen , which brings us back to a birth cert which will give you a better chance of getting an idea of his place of birth .

Hi Trevor:
yes, 1901 Great Melton census shows Charles A. Sumpter (6, born at Great Melton) living with grandparents.  However, in 1891, his grandparents were living at nearby Little Melton.  I now wonder if Charles was born in Little Melton, not Great Melton.

don,t get bogged down with believing all that the census tells you as it may not be correct i find it pays to do a map search of the locale to see what other towns or villages there are in the area then if needs be check them out as well but as it stands wait for the birth cert and go from there if i were you .
