Aldenham Road, Bushey.
« on: Monday 21 May 12 17:26 BST (UK) »
I will be visiting the area shortly and would like to locate the house called "Charnwood", Aldenham Road, Bushey.  It was my grandfather Harry Edwin Townell's home from at least 1914 until his death in 1947.  Can anyone please advise whether it still exists and, if so, the number?

Drove thru yesterday (as promised in my pm).
I didn't get lucky and spot a name.

Aldenham Road was (always is) too busy to drive down whilst spotting for a possible house name. There are a number of building projects ongoing and, as can be expected, a number of properties are more recent than 1950.

Here's a link to the house next door to your relative before he moved to Aldenham Road. He lived the dwelling next door to "St.Julians" (right-hand property). I don't think the 2 houses in the pic are 100+ years old, but the 2 next to them ([part-]terrace) certainly look the part.

Small problemette with g-st-view . . . . .
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0mn9/  worked yesterday, not today.
Search for Vernon Road Bushey.
StJulians is LHS, 5 houses up from Junction with BeechcroftRd.

Many thanks for your messages, Ray.
I have seen the pictures of "St Julian's" and the house to its left.  As you say, they may not be 100 years old.  I do have the 1911 census, thank you.  As far as I know, Edwin Townell did work in London, possibly in The Strand, at some time in his career.
Thank you for trying to spot "Charnwood" from a car. I have also "travelled" along Aldenham Road on "google earth" - it looks quite long, so I may have a task on my hands!  Do you happen to know where the Electoral Rolls for the 1940's are stored?  Perhaps they may help with the house number.

I know of this road and have spoken to a knowledgeable person at Bushey Museum about old houses in this area. I'm not certain, but I think Charnwood is no.110 Aldenham Road. The house has been extended within the last thirty years.

Thank you Lucykin - I do appreciate your help.  My apologies for taking so long to reply to your post.  I did establish that Charnwood is at number 110 and managed to visit there and photograph it last year.  I should have closed this topic.

Hi Sue

Just realised that you cannot post it in the "lookup requests" sub-board.

Start a new thread in the main herts board and put it up there?

Electoral rolls were not taken during the war years of 1939-45.
So you may have to settle for one in the mid 1930's  ;D
