Help with unusual name / certificate writing
« on: Monday 21 May 12 20:20 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I have received today a marriage certificate of my 3 x Great Grandparents. Under fathers name and surname appears to be the name "Job".  Is this an actual name?! Could it be short for something? Jacob maybe?

All suggestions welcome!

Hi Annie

Yes Job is a faily common biblical name and if you check out a census around the correct time you will see there are thousands.  :)

Job isn't that unusual! ;D

The 1881 census has 11,121 of them.
Compare with Leonard (17,000), Janice (1751), Kenneth (4592) or Amy (49619) or Amie (469)!
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)
