Royal Artillery Spike Island. Any records available?
« on: Tuesday 22 May 12 19:59 BST (UK) »
Hi.  I just got my Greatx2 grandfather's marriage cert and it says that he was a gunner with the Royal Artillery, residing at Spike Island.  The year is 1858.  I know that he married a Cork girl and they moved to Dublin and had a family there, but he seems to have been dead by 1876 when his wife re-married.
What I would like to know is where I can find any records from his stay on Spike Island? There must have been records kept on the soldiers stationed there.  His name was David Milligan.  His sons David and James were both also in the Royal Artillery and his father's name was also James.
Any help at all would be very grateful.

Hi,

My Grandfather was stationed on Spike Island during WW1 and we got his military records from the Ministry Of Defence,  but I seem to recall hearing that these records are now at The National Archives.

All British Military Records are kept in the National Archives in London. You can search them online if you have an account.
