Are they on the Irish 1911 census ?

Did they marry in Ireland ?

Hi Tara, yes they are on 1911 ireland census in kilmichael (carrigboy) then boulbrack.

I presume they married in Ireland but cannot find a trace.  Is this unusual?

Regards

Census 1911 - assume this is them

Neither DED nor townland spelled on census as given. If the addresses given earlier in the thread are their home addresses, have you checked the local churches?

Yes Sonas this is them.  Havent checked churches,  irish genealogy site doesnt have the records for 1900's online and ellen was born in gurtaleen enniskeane so maybe married there.
Does it happen that a marriage wouldnt be registered civily?
Daniels family were in boulbrack since late 1700's
Thanks :)

The nearest I could find was a Mary Ellen Galvin getting married in 1903 Cork but no match to a Daniel Murphy.

Yes, there are a LOT of BMD that weren't registered.

As you seem to know a lot about this couple I think a polite letter or email to their local church might be your best course of action.

Thanks tara :)

Gortaleen looks very close to Castletownkenneigh. Maybe they were copying marriage records from here into the main parish reg in Enniskeane, but if nothing shows up in Enniskeane, maybe check about Castletownkenneigh as well.

I seem to recall Castletown (probably castletownkenneigh) was on Ellens baptism record. Will follow your advice thanks.
