Groom name on Marriage certificate COMPLETED
« on: Monday 28 May 12 21:56 BST (UK) »
HI

I am having problems with the grooms name on the attached marriage certificate. From transcripts it is Nicholas Cornachan from Tully in the Parish of Killead.

The problem I have is i can not find any records of any Cornachan's. Anyone with anyother suggestions on spellings.

John
Stewart, Stuart, Todd, Duncan, Waugh, in Ballyclare, Ballyeaston, Rashee, Cairncastle areas of Antrim, Northern Ireland (Ireland)

Hi,
The marriage listed in Emerald Ancestors shows the name as CORNACHAN. This is the only record of this spelling.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

Hi

Thanks for the replys. Looks like because Nicholas and Mary could not write means that different registers have different spellings.

Thanks to Valerie I have found a few births on Family search all with different surnames!!

Cormican, Cormickan and McCormack.

Looks like a bit more work for me but thanks guys this has knocked down a few bricks in the wall.

If you click "Household Return (Form A)" you might find the name is actually McCormick and McCarmick is a mis-transcription  :)
