Llanwrin farms
« on: Tuesday 29 May 12 12:18 BST (UK) »
Many of my ancestors lived on farms in Llanwrin, usually for generations. They include:

Davies family of Cae Adda and Penlan
Jones family of Esgair Llewelyn and Esgair Neuriau
Pugh family of Glyncaerig
David/Davies family of Cilgwyn

There are various other farms linked to my ancestors, but the above seemed to be where they lived. I just wondered if anybody had any pictures or information about the above farms or families?

I do have the census information etc for the familes, but any extra information would be welcome.

Many thanks.

Hi,Noytd.

If you google CADW,  you will find lots of info about farms in Wales.

Many thanks for the information, that map will certainly be a big help.

The first mention I have for the Davies family in Llanwrin is a David Thomas who died in 1785, he was described as of Cilgwyn - there is no mention of my family being linked to this place after this time. The first mention I have of the Davies family at Cae Adda is his son Thomas David/Davies in 1780. I have no idea where David Thomas came from.

My great grandfather, Thomas Davies (1827-1891) was married to Gwen Jones - her family were at Esgair Llewelyn, Esgair Neuriau, and Esgair Meirion. They had 12 children, who seem to have spread around the area and appear at surrounding farms.

I have come across a mortgage surrender document of 1926 regarding Esgair Llewellyn and Esgair Neuriau. The document appears to be the sale of the properties to David Davies of Cae Adda.

The two people "surrendering" the properties are named as the widow Ann Jones of Bronygog, Corris, and David Jones of Llwydiarth who was also a Justice of the Peace. These Jones people do not seem to be part of my Jones family who had lived at Esgair Llewelyn since at least 1841. I was wondering if anybody might have any idea who these two people were?

Just came across this thread during a Google search. It interests me greatly as my wife is descended from the same Davies, by way of Jane Davies the youngest of 12 born to Tomas Davies and Gwen Jones. A special message to noytd. There is a reunion of the Davies family being arranged at Machynlleth some time in May this year.
