Passenger record please
« on: Wednesday 30 May 12 11:07 BST (UK) »
Would some kind person look up a passenger record from England to Canada?  Not sure on the date, maybe around the early 1900's.
James J Keyland and his mother Rachel Keyland.  They are listed on Ancestry, sadly no credit left to check for myself.

How about this one ? James Keyland . Born about 1887 Scotland and aged 24 years
Liverpool to Halifax. Nova Scotia, arriving 10 Apr 1911 on the Canada. Married. Occupation Cook. Tavelling alone. Destination:- Toronto.

Will have a look to see if there is one with a Rachel Keyland. Any dates of birth for them ?

A UK return passenger list for a Rachel Keyland. born 1884 and aged 37 years

Port of Departure: St John, New Brunswick, Canada to London. England on the Corsican arriving 11 February 1921. On route to Egypt. The age on the transcription looks more like 57 years which would make her birth 1864.

Hi,

I think the address is Russett ave, not Russell Ave.

The 1921 Toronto Directory shows that the Jas Keyland at 89 Russett Ave is a cook.

In 1922, James is still at the 89 Russett Ave address, but now he is a night watchman at Shea's Hippodrome.   (See IMG 1021)

Thank you all for your help, just what I needed.

Also while I have you, would there be a marriage for James to a Agnes?  I do not have her last name.
I did find James death in Canada in 1924, so I wonder if there were any children for this couple?

Cheers

Hi,

I checked the Toronto Star for an obituary for James.  There is one, but it didn't mention any children.  He died at the Toronto Western Hospital.  He is James J Keyland, beloved husband of Agnes Keyland.  He was 38.  He was buried in the Veterans Plot in Prospect Cemetery.

I found a marriage record of a child of theirs -- A daughter Ara Keyland.  She was married to Garrett Reuben Wiggins on 24 sept 1925.  They were divorced in 1952.  Ara was 18 and she was born in Scotland, so perhaps the marriage between James and Agnes occurred there.  Agnes's last name is Johnson.

(listed by groom's last name...)

Oh thank you so much.
So now I have to check Scotland.  James was born in Durham, not that far from the boarder of Scotland, makes sense.
