I am tracing my fathers line from walsall. His name was George Albert Stone borne 1900 1901. I would like to know about his family. I think his fathers name was Harry, a saddlemaker from Walsall

I think your first stop is going to have to be the pay-per-view at www.census.pro.gov.uk to get the family in 1901. There is an 11-month-old George listed, who may be yours.

There are also several Stone family members involved in Saddlery, so one cannot see without paying which family is which.

From that 1901 info, locate them in 1881, and then see if you can sort out the branches from an 1891 lookup on the requests board.

Thank you
I know that my father was borne in 1901 in Walsall and am pretty sure that his father was Harry borne in1871 and that his father was Henry borne in 1846. All has to be confirmed but the dates and places fit in.
What i am trying to find is information about the families and wives and was hoping that someone might see this message and help out. As I live in Kent it is a long way for me to travel for information.

I used the indexes there to look up on the census which I have - otherwise it would have been impossible! You could try looking there for the 1851 nad 1841 census and posting new replies in the lookup section here. Good luck :)

What a weird coincidence!
As a result of doing your lookup I decided today to look for the first (and probably only legally speaking) wife of my gtgrandfather. I knew that she was born in and married from Walsall. What a surprise when I found her next to Matilda Stone at 1 Vicarage Terrace! And the people she is servant to are also Stones!

R10-2965/118
1 Vicarage Terrace
John Stone,head,m,38,bridle cutter. Employs 1 man 2 boys 10 cutters(?),Staffs,Walsall
Elizabeth Stone,wife,m,45,Warwicks,Birmingham
William A Stone,son,14,scholar,Staff,Walsall
James Stone,son,9,scholar,Staff,Walsall
William Stone,son,7,scholar,Staff,Walsall
Thomas Stone,son,5,scholar,Staffs,Walsall
Jane Severns,serv,13,domestic servant,Staffs,Walsall
Charlotte Venables,visitor,mar,42,Warwicks,Birmingham
Frank Venables,visitor,7 months,Staffs,Walsall

Small world eh?

This business is full of weird coincidences. What year was that information in?
It is interesting for me to be able to trace some of those ancestors on this side of the family, but it is a very common name around Walsall. I would like to get back further and perhaps find that your ancestors appeared in my family tree. Now that would be weird!!!
Do you know if any old photographs exist of Lower Hall Lane? This appears to be the area where my Gfather & GtGfather lived and worked. From the 1901 & 1881 census this area appears for both sets. It would be nice to get a feel for the history of the place.

Hi again. Sorry I wasn´t clear there. If it says  RG10 then it is 1871 census. (R9 is for 1861 and R11would be 1891 etc, some cd producers put in a G-don't know why).
Jane Severns was no relative of mine, she was the wronged wife as far as I can gather and my gtgrandmother was the "2nd wife" for which there is no marriage! So really I am just being curious when I look her up in the census.
The following link should give you some photos of Lower Hall Lane if you follow the search directions.

Hi there

Sorry to correct you Gardener

The 1841 and 1851 census returns are classified at the P.R.O  under call number HO107 - The HO standing for Home Office

The 1961 through to 1901 are classified at the P.R.O under call number:
RG 9; RG10; RG 11; RG12 and RG13
The RG standing for Register General

It has nothing to do with the manufacture of the cd's
