Restoration and dating of old school photograph.

I found the attached photograph at the bottom of a box of odds and ends. As you can see, it is poor condition. Can anything be done to improve this?

I'd also be grateful for views on a date. I believe that the gentleman in the centre is Fred Harle. This leads me to think that the school is Page Bank or Willington (Co. Durham) and that it was taken middle to late 1880s.

The back of the photograph is plain.

Not much to date but looking at the woman on the left I think mid 1880s looks about right.
