Hi,

It could be that his birth was not registered; not all were at that time.

Hi Thank you all for the mail the only info I have, I found on the 1911 Irish census records in Ireland Galway. He was age 65 and a widower he was living with his son also George norman who was 29 at this time he was born in India so I assume that that his father was in the army it also say on the census that George senior was born in gravesend Kent. I don't know who he married or when or how his wife died or if they had any more children.

I would be grateful for any info.
Thanks

Well, the 1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Galway_South_Urban/Fairhill_Road/901987/ shows that he was a pensioner of the 39 Dord (sic) regiment ........... the 39th was the Dorsetshire regiment.  If this is correct then he may be in the army lists at http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-search.action ............. there is a George NORMAN of the Dorsetshires born 1847 Sudbury, Suffolk ???

It would also appear that some of them were in India c1881 http://www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/armyunits/britishinfantry/dorsets.htm
