Documents for a Death in France COMPLETE

Where can i get a  certificate or document for a death in France.

Marie Theonie ADKINS died 25 Dec 1983   Saint-Léon, Haute-Garonne, France. Ime not sure if her death was recorded under her married name of ADKINS or her maiden name  of BORDES

The only way would be to contact the Mairie:

There is an email address there so probably easiest to try that first.  I have had luck with snail mail + this sort of form letter before (http://genealogy.about.com/library/blfrenchletter.htm ). (+ patience as it takes a couple of months to get a reply).

How do i know how much postage needs to go on the SAE, and what is a international reply coupon to cover the expenses of photocopying, and where do i get one

I didn't see that! That bit of the form letter is a bit odd, as normally the International Reply Coupon(s) are in place of a stamped envelope - they're basically to pay for the return postage (presuming you can't get hold of French postage stamps!)  Previously I have just put in two or three IRCs to make sure, I think (it was some years ago). Most larger post offices should have IRCs.

In this case I'd email first and check with them. Better than waiting six weeks to get back a letter that says "Sorry, but we can't do that because.../couldn't find that record...").

I have sent a couple of emails, and am making other enquireies. I quess i will also have to check with the post office.

So I'll  wait and see if anyone gets back to me.

Hey, Ive been searching and i found the IRC's. Your right, they are to cover return postage and other expenses.
I found places that sell them, return IRC's  from Australia, Canada, Germany Italy, even China. Yet nowhere can i find any for France. Any idear why ?.
What about cost. What would you think about the maximum cost of returning a  certificate, +  their expenses. It doesnt give any amount on the site.

There shouldn't be different IRCs for different places - they're standardised (one should be enough for a single airmail letter from Europe, but check at the post office. Just tell them you need an IRC to send to someone in France).  I wouldn't buy them anywhere except at the post office.  I guess because they do have a nominal value adding a second one could be counted as covering photocopy costs.

I have never been charged (it might be different if you need a certified copy for something). However, like I said, I haven't tried applying for anything recently, since the records I need (pre-1900) are now online. I think it's considered a service they provide (it probably will just be a photocopy of the original).

According to Royal Mail the IRC's are no longer availabe in UK. but after searching over the weekend, i found a french post office online. I was amazed !.  i bought some french stamps.
So i just need them to arrive. I also found a site for requesting french births/marraiges/deaths. just fill in a form. Some places they will email you a copy, but here in UK, you  print out the form and send by mail. Seems easy if you know where to look.
