Hi Rod,
Not got access to Colindale but is this the Robert Saunders who got 7 years transportation for larcany at Somerset assizes in July 1820?
If so he was convicted 10.7.1820 and sent to Van Diemans Land arriving 8.4.1821 on the Countess of Harcourt. It looks like he had been convicted before in January 1818 for larceny and got 6 months and was whipped,Lent 1817 6 months for the same offense at Dorset sessions.
In 1823 he is assigned to a Mr Mapey and in 1826 assistant to Mr C.Fletcher.In 1825 the muster says he was from Cheddington ,farm labourer, brown eyes ,black hair 23 and 5ft 7 1/4.He married an Ann Clancy in Tasmania 28.3.1836 at Longford. They seem to have had a dughter Maria 28.12.1836 at Longford and a son Robert 27.11.1839 at Campbell Town.
Will try abd get to the local Libraray to acess their newspaper database for England at the weekend.
