Hi Gail
Did you find any more information on parents of Bridget?  I have an ancestor Johanna or Susanna Reynolds who was born c 1837 in Ennistymon area and married Michael Doherty or O'Doherty and wondering if they could possibly be related.  My greatgrandmother Bridget Doherty emigrated to Brisbane and other family also emigrated but parents Michael and Johanna/Susanna moved only as far as Miltown Malbay.
Regards, Carmel

Hi Carmel,
The book "A Decent Set of Girls" by Richard Reid & Cheryl Mongan sets down all of the girls names on the "Thomas Arbuthnot" in 1850 who came from Ireland as potato famine orphans to work in the Yass area. It states that Bridget Reynolds father was Michael Reynolds(Dec'd) Mother Ann(dec'd), I dont have any other info. other than she was born in Ennistymon  Co Clare. They say that a lot of the people from the poor houses were there because they had no means of support? She couldn't read or write and she was R.C. and for domestic duties. She was employed at "Jamballa" Sandy Falls(Gundagai) by Mr Peter Ross from March 1850 for 1 year. This residence is where she lived when she married John Downey on 1/11/1850 witnesses were John Downey and Ann Stacey The Tumut. John was listed as living at Adjenbilly when they got married. Information in the book is all not correct for my two rellies. There must have been another John Downey (Andromeda 1830) living in the area possibly he was the witness to their marriage.? Does this help?
John & Bridget worked on many stations in the Murrumbidgee area in their married life. I haven't been able to locate John's death cert but has to be around 1870's as I have traced him on the ER up until then.Regards Gail

Hello Gail,
my name is Gabrielle Clinch (nee Tierney). I am researching my family history and I believe we may be related. My father (Brian Kevin Tierney) his mother was Annie Maria Downey (his father Michael James Tierney). So therefore I believe John Downey is also my great great grandfather. Would love to stay in touch as I am trying to track the family.
Kind regards, Gabrielle
am i able to put my email address up for you to email me??

Hi Gabrielle,
Yes you are related to me distantly.
Love to talk, meet and discuss.
I have located John Downing Irish convict as my John Downey who married Bridget Reynolds at Gundagai in 1850.
I have located his dc and also his grave.
I have just returned from Tumut after meeting a historian who also confirmed all of my previous posts.
I live on the NSW Central Coast.
Regards Gail

Hello Gail,
i find it fascinating yet frustrating knowing which information we gather is correct.  Apart from John Downey and Bridget E Reynolds, I don't have any parentage of John.  I have a Tom Reynolds as Bridget's father and a Catty Madden as her mother but can't remember where this information came from - possibly Ancestry which is where my tree is setup.
Am semi-retiring in March next year and would love to meet up and discuss further.
Not sure how this chat room works and how we can privately message each other??
Talk soon, Gabrielle

Gabrielle you would not be able to see the pm button until you made one more post which is the reason why I suggested the princesscowie send the first one as they can see it.

The Pm button is a round dark button that is beneath the profile picture/profile name of the person you wish to make contact with.

Regards
