1911 Switchman / Railways : Henry A Douglas
« on: Sunday 17 June 12 15:06 BST (UK) »
Hi

Hoping someone out there can help me. I found a cousin (finally) who was apparently a switchman. He died 4 November 1911 , cause of death listed as 'run over, switching'.  I founf this information in these two books:

http://books.google.com/books?id=AszNAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA437&lpg=PA437&dq=%22Frances+C+Douglas%22,+dundalk&source=bl&ots=eIUl70BNZB&sig=X27ULgZY3KbRr_V4MlxzMTxI1es&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-uPdT4OMAoOf6AGstbSaCw&sqi=2&ved=0CCEQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22Frances%20C%20Douglas%22%2C%20dundalk&f=false

http://books.google.com/books?id=tDMlAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA207&lpg=PA207&dq=%22Frances+C+Douglas%22,+dundalk&source=bl&ots=7sQOpN18RS&sig=OrBGK_eDalCJcDUZO1qj5bBIUfQ&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-uPdT4OMAoOf6AGstbSaCw&sqi=2&ved=0CCQQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22Frances%20C%20Douglas%22%2C%20dundalk&f=false

What these entries don't tell me is WHERE he was living. Does anyone know how to find out?  I suspect the lodge numbers would help ?   Any burial information?

Do you have his date & place of birth?  The 1910 Census is available on www.familysearch.org, so you could look for him there if he was in the US then.

I found a website that indicated there was a Lodge 187 in Buffalo, NY.  I found this entry on the 1910 Census:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M59P-TYF  The image lists Harry's occupation as yard conductor - railroad.  It says he was age 42 & single.  Could that be him?

1911 Buffalo city directory
Douglas, Henry, yard con.  LSRR  resides 562 Clinton

The 1912 Buffalo city directory has a Harry Douglas, insp. resides 606 S. Division, but no Henry listed.

Sorry ... should have included that info:

Born 7 April 1867, Cavan Ireland.

The 1901 census seems  like a likely match (Harry being a nickname for Henry).

The record in the books that I found, stated he was 44 at time of death (1911)

Hello Shellyesq

Thank you for your help ... don't have paid membership with Ancestry at the moment so can't see the whole form, so thank you for the details that you shared.  This must be him as you found the Lodge 187 in Buffalo. Which website did you find that at?
