Clonmel Parish Area - Barretts and O'Briens
« on: Monday 18 June 12 00:53 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am new here.  Just joined yesterday.  I am researching my family genealogy which involves the countries of Ireland, Canada, Galacia/Poland/Ukraine/Austro-Hungary.  I have found all my paternal grandparents and their families in the Clonmel, Cahir, Ardfinnan, Knocknaboha areas.  Four generations, if I recall correctly.  I am wondering, with regard to those whom I believe would be my first cousins, are there any Irish records other than online newspapers for those born circa 1914 to about 1930?  I'm curious to know if they are alive, married, had children, dead, immigrated, fought in WWII, etc.  The records on Ancestry.com seem to stop about 1925 or so with regard to births and marriages.  The same with rootsireland.ie.  I do know that two of the O'Brien sisters opened a smoke shop in Clonmel which I visited in 1996.  The lady running it at that time was a Bridget Tobin, whom I believe to be Bridget Barrett Tobin, born to Michael Barrett and Catherine Ryan.

Thank you,

-Robin Hastings nee Barrett

The ladies were named Eileen and Dolly O'Brien.  Dolly I believe is a nickname for Anna Mary, or Mary Ann.  Born to Johanna Barrett and Michael O'Brien.  Johanna is my grandfather's sister, born the year before he was, so Johanna was born in Knocknaboha in 1878 to Michael and Ellen Barrett.

I would also like to know more about the Hyland side of my family.  I believe all my grandmother's siblings came to the US, but am not sure about her cousins.  My grandmother's parents were John Hyland and Johanna Cotter (b 1834).  They lived in and around Ardfinnan, just sw from Clonmel.

On my father's side (read more below), my grand aunt Johanna Barrett married Michael O'Brien and my great uncle Michael Barrett married Catherine Ryan.
