The curve from the bonnet to the windscreen doesn't seem to be so pronounced as the blue car neither. Here is a green one, probably not the same but it might please karenlee.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmentd1/3926334201/in/set-72157622389659498/

Youv'e all missed the obvious, the badge on the Buick is completely different to that in the original photo.

Thank you all for you further comments.  Well, it seems we are almost back to square one... but I am now in possession of the original pic (6"x4") & my OH reckons he can detect some lettering on the badge!!!
He is now scanning the badge area at very high res. on his new scanner, so maybe we will soon be better informed. Back soon, hopefully with some news!

Never heard of an "ENGER".  Shall now consult Mr Google, -- see what he can tell me.

Thanks hepburn for that link. It was the last model produced by Enger.  Apparently Mr Enger committed suicide after being diagnosed with cancer and that, sadly,  brought about the end of the company.  I found an ad. for the 1917 model (12 cylinder) in the Pittsburgh Press, Sunday morning, August 13;  and for the 1916 model, August 29, 1915.  So it was one of these, probably the 1917.
Thank you all for your interest and help in solving this. And a special thank you to John for spotting the difference in the badges.
Kennett, I shall have to hunt out the relevant local papers for April 1917, to see if this one gets a mention. I hadn't thought of that.  Unfortunately "Trove" haven't digitised them yet!!  So some leg work may be required!

The Enger is a very interesting car.   If contemporary newspaper reports are to be believed,  it apparently had a 12 cylinder engine.

6 of which could be disabled by shutting off the fuel supply to them and also permanently opening the valves, allowing the pistons to reciprocate freely. Supposedly a fuel saving device. http://www.american-automobiles.com/Articles/Enger-Twelve-Cylinder.html
