Mary Hayes???
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 15:36 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a marriage for Mary Hayes born 19/12/1845 in Rainford.
She is with her parents Thomas and Ellen in St Helens in 1851 and 1861 but by 1871 is no longer with them.

I did find a marriage to a Joseph Pennington in 1867 in Eccleston St Thomas with Mary's father being a Thomas but her age was 19 at the time of the marriage, I have checked through the censuses for them and it always says, Mary Ann Pennington was born in St Helens, so I'm assuming that it's not her.

I am really struggling with this one, any help would be great, thanks.

Sammy.

Just had a quick look at the 1861 census...Ellen her mum is given as born Eccleston. Can you find Thomas' and Ellen's marriage? If it was at Eccleston perhaps Mary also got married there?
Plus, not too good at geography etc but does Rainford come under the area of St Helen's and perhaps she just started putting St Helen's on the census?

As for ages at the time of marriages etc ....I find they are not always accurate.

Another possibility...could Mary have died between 1861 and 1871?

Just a few thoughts...hope they help :)

Hi

Have you tried http://lancashirebmd.org.uk

There are 3 possibles in St Helens between 1861 and 1871

The one you found, one to a John Smith in 1868 at St Thomas Eccleston St Helens, one to Thomas Woods in 1870 at St Nicolas Sutton, St Helens

There appears to be another Thomas and Ellen Heyes having a Mary at the same time. Check out www.lan-opc.org.uk

Please could you post the census entries as I can't see a Mary born Rainford in the census.

I have just tried freebmd...putting in Mary's name in the spouse entry...it comes up with quite a few marriages for Mary Hayes/Heys around 1865, might be worth trying to find these couples in the 1871 census and see if they fit the bill?

I did have a look through the census and none of the marriages apart from the Joseph Pennington marriage were in the census.

Lancs bmd shows John Cornwall marrying Mary Hayes Prescot St Marys 1868.
1871 census there is John Cornwall age 35 b. Salford living with wife Mary age 29 b. Rainford in Duke St Windle, St Helens.

No it's not that marriage, Mary's fathers name from that marriage was James, it's Thomas in my tree, but thanks anyway.
