Florence Mary Jones
« on: Sunday 22 May 05 23:04 BST (UK) »
Florence Mary Jones was born about 1893 to David Jones a blacksmith and Elizabeth Ann Rowlands in Cardiff.  They were Christian Scientists.  Apart from this I know nothing except that they immigrated to Canada in 1909 and Florence married in Vancouver BC in 1919.

Hi Jetta
have you found them in the 1901 census?
A quick look found several possibilities, about 5 Florence M Jones born Cardiff 1892/1895
This may be them:
David Jones, Elizabeth A Jones, Florence M Jones b 1893  oops no he's not a blacksmith -  he's colliery underground, off to look for others,
Florence M Jones b 1894 Cardiff - father David is a rigger, mother Mary
Florence M Jones b 1891  Cardiff - father william.
Florence M Jones b 1892 Cardiff father Edmund

I think the first family may be yours? here are the details in full
David Jones, b 1865 Cardiff Glamorgan, Head, Collier Haulier - underground, language - English
Elizabeth Ann Jones b 1868 Merthyr, Glamorgan, Wife, Language - Both
Florence M Jones, b 1893 Cardiff Glam, Language - English
Sarah William Servant, age 16,  Gen domestic
The address is difficult to read - 26 Weru St.? or could be Hera St.?, Civil Parish Ystradfodwg, Rhondda. Glamorgan.
RG13/5017, folio 19, p29
Does that help?

Hi again,
you can now look for the birth certificate for Florence.
Florence's birth certificate will give you the mothers maiden name, the address where she was born, have you tried the freebmd site? the problem is with a name like Jones there may be many to choose from, you could try writing to the local Registry office, the Supt.Registrar that will cost you £7.00 for a certificate.
Once you have Elizabeth's maiden name you can look for The marriage certificate this would give you both David's and Elizabeth's fathers name and their address at the time of marriage, you can then start tracing them (or their families)back in the 1891, 1881, and 1871, 1861 census and back to 1841

Hi again,
I think I have just found David and Elizabeth in the 1891 census for you.
The problem is there are an awful lot of David Jones' born Cardiff in the time period 1865 (1863-1867) but this one is with his wife Elizabeth A. born Merthyr.
here are the details, but I have not checked all the other David Jones'
David Jones, Lodger, M, (married) 26, Labourer, Employed, b Cardiff Glamorgan
Elizabeth A Jones, Lodger, M, 23, b Merthyr,
Address: 5 Amos Hill, Civil Parish Llantrisant, Glamorgan.
They are lodging with the Lynch family.
John Lynch, Head, M, 50, Collier, b Ireland Cork.

RG12/4418  folio 81, p 6
hope that helps, now you know they were married (probably) before 1891 which will help in the search

:
The address is difficult to read - 26 Weru St.? or could be Hera St.?, Civil Parish Ystradfodwg, Rhondda. Glamorgan.
RG13/5017, folio 19, p29

If the street is in the St Andrews Parish of Ystradyfodwg, then the street name would be WERN Street. It is in the current village of Clydach Vale, nr Tonypandy.

Address: 5 Amos Hill, Civil Parish Llantrisant, Glamorgan.

Amos Hill can still be found in the village of Penygraig, nr Tonypandy. Penygraig was at the northern edge of the parish of  Llantrisant.

Amos Hill and Wern Street are less than 3 miles apart.

...Just thought I'd assist with a little local knowledge...;)

Thank you
local knowledge is always worthwhile, I just couldn't decide whether it was wern st, weru, or could have been her(n)
thanks for clarifying.

Thanks very much Newbie and The Rhondda.  I'm just getting started on this so it's a work in progress!  I'm sure you know what I mean!  I couldn't access the census without paying from Canada.  Or if I can I'm not sure where to find it.
