Archibald McQuissick or McKissack soldier
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 17:25 BST (UK) »
Hello
I came across a marriage certificate of my great grandmother in Belfast 1854; her father's name was Archibald McQuissick/ McKissack, soldier.
I would guess he was a soldier about 1835 onwards, and wonder where I could find out anything else about him.
Thanks for any advice,
Lucy

hi lucy
i,ve checked service/pension records for him trying different variants of the surname and nothing shows up and if he isn,t in those records he won,t be anywhere else as these are the only service records left all of the rest were destroyed approx 20 yrs after a soldier was discharged .
apart from the 2 variants of the surname you,ve posted do you know of anymore.
and also have you thought to post a lookup on the irish board for him in census records it may help to get a better idea of his name and where abouts .

also if you look in familysearch site there is an archibald m,kissick born 1823 died lisburn apr - jun 1888 .
as your not getting any response i feel this would be better on the irish board so you get folk with wider local knowledge if something could be found in census records it may help to see how long he was in the army it,s worth trying . will see what mods think .

Findmypast have records of an Archibald MCISAAC born in Inverness in 1781, discharged 1816, too early for your Archibald, but it gives you another variation  to consider on spelling of  the name.

Thank you both so much for the replies.  I think it was said there were Scottish roots along the line in the family, so perhaps the earlier Archibald may have been the father of the one I am researching...  it's a fairly unusual name I think.
Thanks again, you are both very helpful
