Hi Jordy

Welcome to Rootschat

In general -

Hagdon is about 2 miles north of Eglingham, up on the moors

Presbyterian burials usually took place in the parish church yard.  I'm not sure I've come across a Presbyterian church with it's own burial ground.

Militia lists and voting lists (if he was eligible to vote) can be found at Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn.  They have an online catalogue which might be worth searching.

There will not be much information in a marriage or banns record from this time.  Usually just their names and the parish they were living in at the time.  Witnesses can be useful and would be available by 1756.

Not sure what you mean by the paragraph about the children.  Perhaps more specific details would be useful

Coldrife Farm - from the NBL Farm Index there are 3 Coldrife's but the one you need is probably the one at Newham township, Bamburgh parish. You can find it on google being near Chathill. Warrenford was where the Presbyterians of Bamburgh parish attended, the one at North Sunderland opened a bit later and started baptising in 1797.

For burials in that area and at that time, I would look first at St Aidans, Bamburgh churchyard. If you look at the Bishops Transcripts for Bamburgh at
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12047-42642-29?cc=1309819&wc=MMRX-YW7:455167739

They run from 1762 - 1838 and might just catch John & Elisabeth'as deaths if they lived to a good age. The early ones are in what was called a General Register - the baptisms, marriages and burials all in one book and can be jumbled. These need careful searching, only 344 pages but you can hop about in the film when you get the hang of searching. As the end of the film shows the "new" registers which are much easier to read and search, I suggest you start at p 344 and work backwards. I noticed a Newham person being buried there on the first page I looked at.

Good luck

Bamburgh transcriptions are on freereg - searchable.  Just putting Knox, Northumberland, burials in the search criteria brought up 156 county wide.  Quite a few from Bamburgh and surrounding parishes.

Might be worth a look

Many thanks to Sharon01,C-side,Gen List Lass
Your suggestions are very helpful and will assist me to perhaps trace a bit further back about John Knox etc.
I queried the possibility of earlier children possibly died by 1787 because John and Elizabeth were married in 1780 .........       I cannot find any earlier children than 1787
This all assumes of course that it was my John Knox who married Elizabeth Aird in 1780
I think it was because a witness J Sample/Semple seems to have some family connections with Hagdon, but I really need definite proof...hence the RootsChat  Post
Thanks again
jordy

Hi Jordy, I've been off family research for a long time but I just googled Hagdon Farm for something and came across this.  My gg grandmother was Elizabeth Baird b1816 Eglingham, her mother was Elizabeth Knox, native of Hagdon, married to William Baird.  I gave up on trying to find anything about Elizabeth Knox, couldn't find their marriage or her birth, possible birth in Spittal but not confirmed.
How have you got on recently?
Regards

Billy

Jordy hasn't been on the site since October 2012 but an email notification will have been sent - here's hoping his/her email address is still the same.
