RAVEN & CURREY, Hastings area
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 02:23 BST (UK) »
I was given a couple of cabinet portaits taken by R Boning, 10 Verulam Place, St Leonards on Sea. According to the Hastings Photographers website he traded under that name 1864-1872.

The photos are of two groups, and there are names on the back, and I am endeavouring to see where they lived etc.

One photo has
Ennis Currey - young man
Henry Mills - young man
E.H.R. - young woman
H.W.R. - man
Minnie Currey - married young woman
Isabel Currey - single young woman

The other one has
Connie Raven - young woman
M.S.R. - man
Hbt Currey - young man
Florence Currey - young woman
Mary Raven - woman
L.R. - older man probably patriarch
Walter Currey - boy

I think those with initials only may all be Ravens. They are all very well dressed.

Has anybody come across these names anywhere. Have not really looked very hard on the census.

Thanks
Ian C

Scratched my head over this one Ian and wonder if it may have been a little later when the photographer Boning was in partnership with Small.  If that had been the case the following family from Greenwich might suit.
Currey Frederick 1820, Currey Sarah E 1829, Currey Fredk J 1850,
Currey Menella (Minnie?) 1851, Currey Florence 1854, Currey Isabella 1856(from 1871 Greenwich census)
Currey Walter Francis 1861 (with Wenella on the 1881 Greenwich census)

Note:  Minnie seems to be a very versatile alternative name, standing in for almost any female name beginning with 'M'  and several other names besides.  R G

Thanks Roy

Could well be them. Thinking about it they could have just been in St Leonards on holiday and decided to have their photograph taken.

Will follow that up.
