« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 14:13 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with any information about Col. H. Chalmers resident of 35 Sillwood Road, Brighton in 1879?  He married Mariane Nevitt Bennett at St Giles Church, Camberwell, Surrey on Nov 24th 1840.  She was the daughter of Rowland Nevitt Bennett and Marianne Mardall (sister of my Great Grandfather, Captain George Straford Mardall of the Madras Native Infantry)

I think you have the dates wrong: Rowland Bennett married Marianne Mardall in 1840.

Marianne N Bennett married Henry B Chalmers Sep qtr 1866 Marylebone (register vol 1a p1046).  The marriage certificate should give you some information on his father.

Have you tried the 1881 census - if you can find Henry you could get his age and birthplace.

Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.

Hi Mardall

3 July 1866, St Marylebone Church, Westminster
Henry Brougham Chalmers married Marianne Nevitt Bennett
Henry was 'of full age', a Captain in HM Bengal Staff Corps - son of Alexander Chalmers MD

Seems Henry was born c.1830 in Lucknow, India, and died in 1905 in Hungerford, Berkshire, although his address at that time was 1 Salisbury Rd, Hove, Sussex

His parents married in Mynpourle in October 1827 - Alexander Chalmers MD, of the Bengal Medical Establishment / Frances Jane Maria Bishop, eldest daughter of Lieut-Colonel S P Bishop of the Hon East India Commpany.

That's really helpful - thank you very much.  In 1879 Col. H. Chalmers wrote a letter of introduction to Lord Chelmsford for my Grandfather, then 19, to take with him to South Africa.  We still have that letter and I wanted to find out more about the author. Many thanks.
