Hi anngar,

The Parish of Portree included the island of Raasay see http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/search/?action=do_search&p_type=PARISH&p_name=portree&id=1194&p_county=inverness-shire

John and Murdo were definitely in Raasay. If you go to the record again on the Freecen website, keep clicking on the next household button and you'll come to other townships in Raasay.

Best--G.
SKYE(Macleod, Mackinnon, Macdonald, Campbell, MacRaild, Beaton)

RAASAY(Gillies, Macleod, Maclennan)

Thanks.  That clears it up in my mind.  I had clicked the households to see that McKenzies & McLeods lived itogether in almost all the households in Manish, but didn't concentrate on the townships.

John's second wife Margaret (MacPherson I believe), 25 yrs, three of the children from the first wife, Chirsty, 20 yrs, Catherine, 20 yrs, Roderick 15 yrs, and one child from the second wife, Alexander,10 months are found in 1841 census also in Manish along with a Helen McKenzie, 8 yrs old, pauper.

This shows that Margaret and John were married in Scotland before going to PEI.  According to a 1901 census in PEI daughter Catherine is listed as immigrating to PEI in 1841.

I wonder where the father John and his other children Mary & Donald were during the 1841 census

Helen may be a daughter of Ann McKenzie, who is living with son, John McKenzie and John's other son Murdoch McLeod who are in another house in Manish as found earlier in this thread.
