Hi Tony

Thank you very much for the information which is exceedingly helpful.

Do you think that Union House would have been Canterbury workhouse?

It seems like I may be in the process of breaking down a brick wall in my tree so thank you.

Westwood1

ADDED the number you have given may be the burial plot number.

Yes, I think Union House is the Canterbury workhouse, and thought the E474L number was probably the burial plot number.

Tony, great thanks.

I wonder if you would also be kind enough to look up the following if you are able to please?

Death
James Simmonds July to Sept quarter 1859 Canterbury.

This could really help pin down the relevant family for me.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Burial Record for James Simmons (sic)

St Gregory

Date 15 September 1859, age stated to be 65.

Again from Union House.

Reference E 474 1/2.

Not sure how to type it but the number is 474 and a half!

Hope this helps as well.

Tony
