Leicester newspaper death notice Charles COLLIER 1850
« on: Saturday 14 July 12 05:09 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for any Leicester newspaper notices about the death of CHARLES COLLIER.

He died on July 25, 1850 in Leicester, having been a hat manufacturer in Gallowtree Gate, Leicester. In 1801, he married Hannah Cockayne and they had two children.

I have searched the British Newspaper Archive for a death notice without success.

Help very much appreciated.

James

Mike

Thank you very much for the information. I'm hoping Charles Collier's death may have been newsworthy enough for a death notice or obituary. I'll keep looking.

Cheers

James

Hi Hanes Teulu

Although I have no connection to or information on the subject of this thread I am intrigued to see that you have access to old Leicester newspapers. I am trying to find out why one of my ancestors changed his name and went on the run in the mid to late 19th century but couldn't find access to local papers that might have recorded his crime. I'd be most grateful to know the source of your records.

Tony

I've successfully used the British Newspaper Archive - it contains scans of newspapers from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a pay per view site.

James

Hello Tony.... :)

James is correct in saying the http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ is a pay per view site,

But I see from your profile you are in Hampshire and Hampshire Libraries have 19th century British Newspapers Online... and amongst others they have some for Leicestershire which you might find useful.... and best of all it is free  :D

All you need is your library card number... see here = http://www3.hants.gov.uk/library/reference-online/19thcenturynews.htm

Sheila.
