Help to find service record
« on: Sunday 15 July 12 09:05 BST (UK) »
Hi, can someone please help me find some information for William Munday from Ewelme in WW1. I have a pic, and believe he was a member of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, going by his hat bagde. I hope i am right. Have also been told he was a Sergeant late on, He may have also served with the Hampshire Regiment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi des
just wanted to say what a great photo that is it must have been taken by a pro as the clarity is amazing , in case you don,t know ancestry has all ww1 records although upwards of 60% were burnt in a bombing raid in ww2 but his medal index card will be in there as they were kept elsewhere if his service record has survived your one of the lucky ones  ;) .
best wishes

Thanks for All the replies everyone. Great information. I have since been told the correct name may be Sgt William P Munday, but on the Ewelme Memorial it is recorded as :

MUNDAY P William.   Sgt Hants R.

He apparantly survived, as he is listed as serving, not killed,  is not buried in Ewelme Cemetry.

Maybe you can also help me with my great grandfather. His name is James Smith, and he apparantly served in WW1, but can not  recognise the unit he was in from the photo.
