The library seems to have the Herald for Jan 1907 - Dec 1980.
It's a frustrating search because I know you've tried everything and drawn a blank.
Thanks for looking Bev. It was a longshot really...I was just looking through old notes...& seeing if there was anything I hadn't tried.
I hope that at some stage they will digitalise their newspaper collections, - it would make searching so much easier!
The University of Swansea Library have emailed me back to say that:
'The Richard Burton Archives at Swansea University is a specialist archive whose collections are mainly concerned with the industrial, political, social and cultural history of the South Wales Coalfield area'.
I've already tried the West Glamorgan Archives, who say they haven't got anything specific relating to this Company...and so perhaps thats as far as I can go.
One thing that does confuse me...I found an initial notice of administration, (first step in bankruptcy proceedings) in The London Gazette from 1900 against William James Wilson. However, I think that it was the Draper's business in the Mumbles which went under then, and the Painting and Decorating one continued. If that one had gone bust...I would have expected to find similar proceedings in the early 1930's, - but I can't find anything:-(
I'm running out of ideas now...and I'm still unable to find a Birth or Baptismal entry for my Grandfather:-(((
Romilly.
