Hi Paul, I would think that your enquiry would be better on the Yorkshire Board? Rather than this beginners board.

You will find more LOCAL expertise there.
MODIFIED. Sorry meant to put this link in it is the Local Archives office for York and contains the registers for the Parish St Deny's

Hi Allan, I would think that would be a transcription error, and we all know that these happen. As Thomasin and Thomason are Female equivalents of Thomas, Thomasin being the norm and was popular on the east coast up through Durham and Northhumberland.

Thomlinson was used more as a Surname. ;)

Hi All,

I have been looking for Henry Boldison wife. the only Thomasin Dale, i
could find is Mary Thomas Dale birth:   21 Dec 1790

https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3A%22Mary%20Thomas%22~%20%2Bsurname%3Adale~%20%2Bbirth_place%3Aengland%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1780-1800~%20%2Bmarriage_year%3A1800-1815~

and as you pointed out Thomasin and Thomason are Female equivalents of Thomas, she could
have used he middle name. see below.

Mary Thomas Dale

born   21 Dec 1790
baptism   22 Jan 1791   SPA FIELDS LADY HUNTINGDONS,CLERKENWELL,LONDON,ENGLAND

parents   Francis Dale, Jane

what do you think

regards

Paul

I think that looks a lot like her! She may well have used her middle name and this is more likely to be Thomasin but has been mistranscribed. Many of the names on family search have had a makeover, normal human error in what is hundreds of thousands of Transcriptions.

Her name would have been written in Parish registers and if you have seen them you would possibly make the same mistake. I have found more than twenty mistranscriptions in my own family tree from the parish registers to the Bishops registers (This was normal procedure) then onto the on-line versions, it leaves lots of room for errors.

The Bishops required returns to be made sometimes quarterly sometimes annually and it depended on who had to do them. Some of the Clerics were very good, others were lousy clerks who couldn't get their own mothers name right. The records at the Archives may yet show you a clearer picture. I was lucky as all the Durham whoops (most) of the transcripts are on-line and I was able to troll through for many months to find each family member. These went back to the 1500's so lucky indeed. It depends on the York Bishops and what they required, hopefully good records.

Cheers Neil in OZ ;D
