MI George Baker Old Machar Churchyard
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 06:49 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I posted this request about a year ago without response, so I thought I'd try again :)

I'm wondering if some kind person who lives near the Old Machar Churchyard would be able to check an inscription for me - and possibly take a photo?

George Baker was buried in Old Machar Churchyard after his death on the 27th January 1895 (grave no. 35 G). According to the burial register there was a headstone erected. His wife Sarah Baker is also buried there in the same plot - she died earlier, on the 26th January 1882. There's no record of a headstone in the register, but her name may have been added to George's when he died.

Thanks

Eddie

Eddie, for £3.00 you can get the grave details and the burial register from Deceased online. As for a photograph, if I am in that area, I will go in by and see what I can do.

Hi Eddie/Eidde, slightly later than I wished, but here at last.
Inscription reads as follows :-
Errected by George Baker, Mail Guard, in memory of his son James, who died in infancy. Also of George who died 4th May 1849, aged 8 years and 6 months. Also Sarah, wife of the above George Baker, who died 26th Jan 1882 aged 76 years. Also the above George Baker, Late Mail Coach Guard, who died 27th Jan 1895 aged 89 years.

Regards

Malky

Hi Malky

Thank you so much for the photos - it's very good of you to take the trouble! More information on the headstone than I expected, too.

All the best
