Unearthed wartime ID Bracelet - Wallasey
« on: Wednesday 18 July 12 08:16 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anyone could help with this one:

A wartime ID bracelet has been unearthed with the inscription:

Elsie G Allen, 17 Bowdon Road, Wallasey 1946.

The family who has found this bracelet would like to return it to the family involved.

The research I have done leads me to believe that this bracelet belonged to:

Elsie Gertrude Ashcroft
born 23 Oct 1879 Tranmere, Cheshire
married Edward Allen (1878-1916)
Died 26 Dec 1956 at 4 The Boulevard, Whitby, Ellesmere Port

It looks like there was a second marriage in 1947 to a Donald E Newton when she was 67 years old but her death is recorded in the name of Elsie Gertrude Allen.

In 1911 she is living at 3 Castle Road, Wallasey with her husband Edward and sons Edward Ashcroft Allen & John Ramsay Allen.

Trying to trace family through her two sons has drawn a bit of a blank.  I have no other information on the first son Edward Ashcroft apart from his appearance on the 1911 census and he was not named in the Elsie's probate document.  Her second son John Ramsay Allen (who was named in the probate) apears to have married in 1947 to Edna Williamson.  There is only one child that may have come from this marriage but it was born in the same quarter as this couple married so I'm thinking its a bit dodgy.  John Ramsay Allen died in 1975.

Does anyone know of a way we can tie Elsie G Allen to the address of 17 Bowdon Road, Wallasey and also of trying to locate any family members now living?

Thanks to anyone taking the time to help.

Best wishes
Lyn

Shaun - you've been great, thanks.  Think I have come across a couple of more children which should help.  Will let you know how I get on.
