Death at sea Channel Isles abt 1883
« on: Friday 20 July 12 09:26 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information about Charles Windsor(Winsor) Grant reported to have been lost at sea in 1883.  The family lived in Jersey and I wonder if there would be any newspaper reports about it.  I believe his son Charles also perished.

There is a marine death register entry for Charles Wm Grant, aged 38, assumed drowned 29 June 1883. He was master of the ship "Two Friends".

There are news reports circa February 1884 of the ship Two Friends, of Jersey, master Grant, being missing. She sailed from Rio Grande Do Sul for Falmouth on 29 June 1883 (for orders, with salted hides and horns)and was never heard of again.

The Two Friends was ship number 76256.

Will check for other Grants missing on the same vessel...

The assumed loss of the schooner Two Friends was first reported in newspapers in mid-November 1883

There are two submitted public trees on Ancestry which have that 29 June 1883 date, so someone has been down this path before!
