Thomas Gilmour
« on: Saturday 21 July 12 01:57 BST (UK) »
I am 40 years old and immigrated to Canada as child in 1977
Family not discussed -ever. Parents wedding licence show my grandfather ( never met him) as a police Sargent. I belve my parents were Ayrshire area . Grandfather name was Thomas Gilmour born ?? Perhaps 1920... Died 1983 or maybe 1984. I emailed the police force one day to ask if they would be willing to show me a photo of my grandfather as. I have never saw him or the grandmother but they said privacy issues prevented . I am just learning Genioligy and trying to learn who my family was. There are people who can help I think but until I find them ... I have no where else to ask . Grandmother was flora young Scott Gilmour then married a jimmy Knox in 1970 and died in 1975. Never met her or saw a phot of her neither . Frustrating

Thank you

Hi and welcome

I think that this is the marriage ref for your grandparents' marriage:

1947 Ardrossan and Saltcoats, Ayrshire
Thomas Gilmour and Flora Young Scott.

Birth  1924 Colmonell Ayrshire

Flora Young Scott
(There are a few Thomas Gilmours so I can't decide which one is yours)

These show on the ScotlandsPeople site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  This site has all the Scottish birth, marriage and death records/indexes on it.   It's a pay site but very reasonable and a must for anyone with Scottish ancestors.

To get the full marriage certificate, which would give details of your grandparents' parents and their ages, you'd have to order the certificate from them.

If you are new to Scottish research, it would be worth reading this:

It would appear that Thomas and Flora were divorced around 1967

gwen...i don't have any photos of Tommy .but i have a wedding photo of Robbie and one of Betty ...i'll look them out and see if i can forward them to you...also one of William the brother who drowned..i've been researching my family tree too...and i have gone back to the 1700's to my g.g.g.grandfather..who was Samuel Gilmour who married Jane Neil....the Gilmours originated in Ireland...and a lot of the Irish records were destroyed.  Scotlands' people is a very good site that's the one i use..i can tell you that your g grandfather was William Gilmour married Annie Stewart
g g grandfather was also William married Janet Wilson...1871 in Mauchline ayrshire...g g g grandfather ..also William....popular name....married Margaret Warden..in Ireland....your g father Tommy and his brothers and sister were all born and lived in Auchinleck...i'm so glad i could help...
