Hello again.

I think I have found the marriage I was looking for in my original post.    :)

On Freereg at Mistley 23rd Feb. 1789
Philip Ho(px)ey bachelor of Thorpe-le-Soken to Elizabeth Palmer. Elizabeth Palmer had relatives Jonas and Jonathan Palmer. Philip and Elizabeth had two children named Jonathan and Jonas so I think I am on the right track.

I am still looking for this Philip Oxley's baptism around 1758. It was not recorded at Thorpe-le-Soken but I think the nearby parish of Great Bentley may hold the answer. According to Freereg there were four marriages of one or more Philip Oxleys, with various spellings, at Great Bentley:

Philip Oxey bac. to Sarah White 1758
Philip Oxe to Sarah Olive 1762
Philip Oxe wid. to Mary Griggs 1768
Philip Oxley wid. to Sarah Clark 1792.

If someone has access to Great Bentley baptisms and burials register could they see if a Philip Oxley around 1758 was baptised there please?

Thank you for reading this.

Thank you Amondg for you help with this query.  :)  Looks very promising.

If some kind person is looking at Great Bentley's burial register could they check to see if 1763 Philip Oxley survived childhood please?

I am leaning towards all four Philip Oxley Great Bentley marriages being the same man. Are there any recorded burials at Bentley of the first three wives?

Marriages: 1758 Philip is listed as single. 1762 no indication of status is recorded.
1768 and 1792 both record Philip as a widower.
I'm leaning towards two men of the same name, have you found a will?

Buried 21 March 1768 wife of Philip Oxe, no name given.
There is a Sarah Oxley buried 16 March 1780

Honor daughter of Philip and Sarah Oxey buried 2 February 1766.

Will take another look but the register is difficult to read from poor quality ink used and damage from damp.

Thorpe Le Soken Original Parish Register
Hannah baptized 18 January 1821 of Philip and Hannah Oxley. If transcribed as Harriet it is a mistake.

Thank you Amondg for all the information.  :)   I will study it all properly later. At first glance I think you are right. There were two Philip Oxleys marrying at Great Bentley.

One Philip Oxley, with no age given, was buried at Thorpe-le-Soken on the 17th of March 1802. This was where my ancestors, Philip Oxley and his wife Elizabeth (Palmer), were then based so he was possibly father living with them but what happened to the other one?

I have not yet come across any wills. A will in this family would be very useful!
