FreeRegSearch has -
Ann Treharn, baptised Llangynwyd Parish Church, 13 May 1796, parents Richard and Margaret.

The parish of Llangynwyd Higher was originally (1837) in the Neath Reg District

possibility?

Are they still in Cadoxton in 1841?

There's a family there headed by a Lewis Jones, 50, and wife, Ann, 40. HO107/1421/5/10/11

The 1841 used aged rounding for those of 15 and over, so Ann would be 40-44 - probably fitting with HT's find.

(However, others in the household over 15 are not rounded  :-\  )

Hello,
Yes this is the same family I found on the  1841census in Cadoxton which I thought to be them also.
Not sure where Ann Treharn was born or her parents were made it a little difficult to assume this was correct.

I see they had 10 children. The one I'm concerned about is John Jones age 15 on the 1841 census. He married Sarah REES but I have not been able to find this marriage. John and Sarah's first born was Ann Jones b1853 would getting her birth certificate
help me tie this together? Any other suggestions please would help.

Kind regards
Kazza.

Have you located lewis and ann in later census returns ? What were the details.
What about john and sarah? Do you have census info later for them. does she give a place of birth that may help find the marriage?

Yes have located John and Sarah Jones in 1861 census - birthplace just says Glamorgan Swansea. Then nothing after that as they died of cholera in 1866. Daughter Ann has same birthplace.

I have found Lewis and Ann Jones - parents of John above, in later census's.
With the JONES name it's becoming very difficult to make sure I am getting the right ones related.

Why is there no marriage of John Jones and Sarah Rees. Did they get married?

There are 5 marriages on freebmd with a john jones on the same page as a sarah rees between 1841 and 1853 but none in swansea.

Have you found john in 1851 as this would futher narrow the date of any possible marriage.

Other things to consider
- they never married
- they are transcribed incorrectly
- they were missed from gro index - try looking in parish records

The Lewis Jones of the family posted by Brevitas isn't on any later census as he died before 1851. It also looks like John may have died as there is another younger one.

Tynllecha Ishaf, Cadoxton juxta Neath HO107/2464 folio 336 pg 7
Ann Jones head widow 58
Lewis son 26 tinner in tin works
Ann dau 24
Griffith son 19 washman in tin works
Margaret dau 18
David son 15 washman in tin works
Ebenezer son 11
John son 9
Jenkin son 1
Margaret Davies visitor 2
all born Cadoxton

Lewis was buried 15/8/1849 in Cadoxton parish church, age given as 63, address matches 1841 & 1851 census.

There's another Ann Treharn baptism that's possible 15/6/1794 Neath St Thomas dau of William & Elizabeth

Tthis would seem to be the wrong family for your John unless they had 2 sons called John.
The 1861 for John & Sarah doesn't give their place of birth as Swansea, just Glamorgan. There is no ditto from the person above on the census page who was born in the parish of Swansea.

Reed Fach, Swansea Lower RG9/4107 folio 38 pg 3.
John Jones head mar 35 labourer
Sarah wife 39
Ann dau 8
Mary dau 5
Gwillim son 3
all born Glamorgan

If you don't have Ann's birth certificate, how do you know what her mother's maiden name was?

Thanks for the reply.
First yes Lewis Jones died in Aug 1849. I found his death on FreeReg.
I too wondered how a younger John was born to Ann but after a friend checked find my past John and Jenkin the 2 last children on 1851 census belong to John and Margaret Jones b. 1842 and Jenkin Jones b. 1851 to William and Jennett. Not sure why it gave them as son's to Ann Jones.

So as far as it works out this is my family.

The Reed Fach family I am picking as mine from other research. I know that John JONES married Sarah REES because I have their son David born 1864 birth cert which gives the mother as Sarah REES and he is my great grandfather. He came to Australia then New Zealand and I have his death certificate as mother's maiden name Sarah REES.
