Charles Powrie Stewart, b1912, Auchtergaven, Perthshire
« on: Tuesday 24 July 12 16:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for information about date and place of death, as well as info. on any possible marriage/descendants for the above person who was born in the parish of Auchtergaven in 1912.  Parents possibly William Ross Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Semple Powrie.  If these parents are correct, Charles had an older brother James, born in 1908/09.

I have that family, but knew nothing of a second marriage and further children. Charles Powrie born 1846 Burnfoot of Seggieden, Perth, Scotland. he married Mary Elizabeth Semple in 1876, Gros reference Abernethy Perth  326/8 Page 4, with 6 children. Charles died in 1908, so I can go back and search for the marriage and children. She died in 1924, and would have been 63 at the time of Charles Powrie Stewart's birth. His brother James who you list, would have been illigitimate,  I think her death record holds the key, as the informant is Elizabeth Powrie, 74 yrs, widow of Charles Powrie, a Gasworker, died at 8.50 p.m. on the 17th April, 1924, at The Crescent, Luncarty. Elizabeth was the son of William Wilson Semple, a Fisherman and Janet Semple, m.s. Greenhill, both deceased. The cause of death was Carcinoma Hepatio, for 1 year as certified by R. Burgess, MD. The informant was William Stewart, son-in-law. Your Charles related but not her son.
William married Mary Elizabeth Semple /Powrie/, in
1908, so their children were born after that, but will be easy to trace. I have 18 branches of Powries, and my current book covers their records from 1553-2009. I'm finishing the 1911 census, write me at (*) I have the family back to 1750. Mary Powrie Schacht.Mary Elizabeth Semple Powrie was born in 1887, Walnut grove.

1912 STEWART CHARLES POWRIE M AUCHTERGAVEN /PERTH 330/00 0025 No Image online. I'll look for james. silly they won't allow those who could be living records online, but if there in person I can pull and view yesterdays. I have professional friends who can send them to me.

Mary

This family were Salmon Fishers on the Tay, and I have two books, one which lists the family by name. He is related to the late Ian Powrie, our world famous fiddler, any interest in contact with the cousins of this line. I keep a chat group of cousins for each branch.

the only james Stewart born in Auchtergaven in 1908, and 1909, both James Fraser Stewarts, were not that family. She could have gone to kinfauns to have her first child which was common. there was a Mary Semple stewart in 1911, but there are 22 stewart children born in Auchtergaven. it is a common name, which you understand.

It being the weekend, I'm knocking off to enjoy my husband and children. I checked the Lds website for all children born to that couple, and I can search my other subscriptions for trees. No use wasting GROS credits, if I can find a list of names, and dates/places, then find just those records. I can get my friend to get Charles and Mary. I know there was a James, and William, and since 10-18 were normal even in the early 1900s, there are no doubt more to fill in.

Mary

Thanks, Mary.  I have the marriage certificate for William Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Semple Powrie's elder son James (b.1908) on which Charles Powrie Stewart is recorded as a witness.  Still trying to get the latter's birth record.  Sinc e it is over 100 years ago, surely Scotland's People will have released the image for viewing!

First children were often born at the new mother's family home or a relative. After one safe delivery, Mums felt more at ease having the next in her own home.
