Brand new chat-er so sure this is probably the wrong protocol! please tell me! I am trying to post a message/ request for a look-up in the Charlbury PRs. I believe the family of Peter HENSHER were in Charlbury from c.1750 to the beginning of the 1800s. Would it be an impossible task to ask what baptisms there were for this name during that period? I am also desperate to know what occupation they were following - too much to hope that occupations were recorded I suppose? I would be most grateful for any help or pointers please! Many thanks Bev Robertson nee Hensher

Thank you! It appears that Peter is the only member of the family who did not stay in London during this period. I'm hoping to find that Peter was a tobacco pipe maker and something that mentions Huguenot descent! Do you know if Settlement records survive for this period in Charlbury?  Many thanks in anticipation! Bev Robertson

Hi Phil,

I am hoping that you might be able to help me. Am I to understand that you have a copy of the Charlbury Parish Records ? If so what info have you on a Dorothy Hill, I know she married Albert Harbod in 1920 and I think she lived up Station Hill with her mother and two other women. I think one was her Aunt Rose but not sure.

Any information you can give would be appreciated.

Jacki

Hi Nigel

Thank you for the information you gave me, much appreciated. I still don't know if I can go any further with my tree though, as I have been told by the family that Dorothy came from Birmingham originally and we don't know her mothers name. (A very secretive lot). Would you have any information on the other women they lived with in Station Hill ? Or any advice on where I could go from here ?

Regards Jacki

Hi Jacki
Well you have to be a bit careful as you are moving in to the realm of living people and searching them or enquiries about living people have to be protected but there are things you can source from the public domain which will help you.

You need to start by finding or possibly buying birth marriage and death certificates. These may be 'findable' in family documents, wills, bibles etc. If they cannot be found then you have to buy them.

On a birth cert you will get a great deal of info but of course you need Dorothy's maiden name for that so you may have to begin by sourcing a copy of her marriage cert - from that you will get her address at the time of her marriage, her name before she married and possibly - if entered her fathers name and occupation. The names of the witnesses at the marriage may also give you a clue - a sister or brother perhaps and so on. That helps you part way to finding her birth name - from there you may get a location so that you can source a copy or copies of birth certs for her.
It may be that from her death cert you will find a name of the informant at the time of registration of the death?

This can all become very expensive and that is why this forum is so good as there are loads of chatters out here who will help you along the way - perseverance and patients - is that how you spell that - is essential and eventually a healthy bank balance is needed as well!!!

PM me for more info if you would like.

regards and hope this helps a little
