Ellen & Fanny Elizabeth Davis
« on: Friday 27 July 12 18:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

There has always been a family myth that we have gypsy blood in the family due to the fact that my grandmother had unusually tanned skin and dark thick hair.

I am currently looking for more information regarding my great-great grandmother Fanny Elizabeth Nash nee Davis and her mother Ellen Davis.

The information I have regarding Fanny Elizabeth Nash nee Davis is as follows.

b)  abt 1976, unknown location. (marriage, 1881, 1901 census all state unknown origin, including the more developed 1911 census which states ‘0x’ Unknown)
c)  28th Jan 1877, Lingfield, surrey. (Ellen Davis - mother)
m) 28th March 1899, Parish of East Grinstead (Godstone Register Office) to Charles Nash. Dormansland. (No farthers first name or surname written for Fanny Elizabeth)
d)  28th August 1912, Rose Cottage, Dormansland.

The information that I do not have is anything regarding Fanny Elizabeth's place of birth or her ethnicity???.

I am also unable to find any relevant information regarding ‘Ellen Davis’ who mothered a ‘Fanny Elizabeth Davis’ during 1976.

I have found that there was an officer/matron at HMP Maidstone (1871-1891) who was called a Miss Ellen Davis, though I am unable to find more information.

So I would not be surprised if Fanny Elizabeth was born in the prison and she was adopted? This is only an assumption though and could be pure coincidence and going off the line

Any information or guidance would be of much help to solve this myth.

Thank you for reading

Regards

Luke

Have you seen the actual parish register for the Lingfield christening?

Parish registers sometimes contain additional information about the child or parent(s).

Hi Jann,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I have not seen the the actual parish register for the Lingfield christening.

The only information I have is an IGI Individual Record that states the date, where and the mothers name.

Is this accessible online?

Regards

Luke

Is this Fanny in 1881? If so, her place of birth fits with her baptism in Lingfield

Hi Groom,

Thank you for taking time to reply.

Yes that fits in perfectly wth what I have for her in the 1881 census. Though I have been unable to find her whereabouts during the 1891 census.

She married in 1899 to Charles Nash and lived in Dormansland between then and 1912.

I am stuggling to find anything with regards to Fannys place of birth or her ethnicity.

If you have any information that would be mostly appreciated.

Regards

Luke

Duplicate post  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,608517.0.html

If you make the same posts in different places Luke it means that people waste time looking up the same information. It is far better to keep everything in one place.
