Golding in Kings County (Ifflay?)
« on: Wednesday 01 August 12 20:15 BST (UK) »
A relative tells me that one of my ancestors surname Golding came from Kings County or Ifflay.  Not sure of the spelling but can anyone tell me where they are?  Anyone researching Golding in this area perhaps?

The name of the County is now Offaly, located in the west of Leinster province bordering counties Laois (formerly Queen's Co.), Kildare, Westmeath, Roscommon and Galway

What details do you have on your Golding family - any names and dates ?

see : Introduction to Irish Records
My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

In the 1861 Census for Liverpool we have a John Golding b 1820 in Kings County.  Don't have anything on his birth , parentage or siblings...

Hi,
In the Griffiths Valuation of 1851 for Offaly I cannot find any Goldings but there are two households of Gouldings in the townland of Moneygall in the parish of Cullenwaine. One is headed by James and the other by Anne. The properties are described as ruins and each has a garden

Hi there,

Did John marry ?

If so who to ?

Have you gotten the marriage cert as this should have his father's name and occupation on it !

Hey

If as Kingkerswell suggested he turns out to have been from Moneygall then he could be related to Barack Obama LOL !

Hi, we have him married to Mary, census shows her from Llanllwchaiarn (honestly!) in Wales.  Think it's in Montgomeryshire...

Confusion is that all other relatives are from Liverpool area - he's the only one born in Ireland (that we know of).   ;)
