It possibly depends where you ordered it from.  If from GRO direct then they would have indicated the delivery date to you at the time of ordering (I've always found that I've received the certificate at least on time, usually before the date indicated).  Other sources, I have no idea, but 3 weeks does sound a bit "long-winded".

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

If you ordered from the GRO website and you're in England it should take about a week if you've provided all the index details. If you haven't provided the index details they have to do a search that usually takes a few weeks. Don't know how long it's taking at the moment for the Liverpool register office certificates. I always order from the GRO:-

Hi,

Certificates ordered from GRO without index details usually take around 3 weeks;  I use that method sometimes when it is difficult to be sure of the right one......Charles Smith for instance!

Shela their website says that all requests are processed within 5 days, are you in the UK (your profile doesn't say which country you live in)?

I would contact them and ask if there's been a problem.

You're better off using the GRO in future it's usually a 1 week wait for events if you have the index details.
