Multiple similar posts
« on: Thursday 09 August 12 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hi There, I am just after some clarification about the rules of posting similar posts. I have a few examples where I have put a few posts up but I am unsure if it is ok to do so or not i.e

I had believed that a family member had either been laid to rest in either Dorset or Gloucestershire so I posted similar messages in both areas . Is this ok to do so?

I then wanted to research a family , when I wanted to then split the family to get into another side of a family I made another post.  Should I have stuck with my original post and kept going from there using all the family surnames?

I am just curious and want to do things the right way .

Many thanks

Hi

I think that "the sin" is that when you post multiples then the RootsChatters who start to help do not know that others are helping (have helped) and posted relevant info on threads they are not aware of.
(Thereby wasting effort/time thru duplicated effort and lack of the knowledge of info found which could very well be useful).

My view is that a comment (+link to the other threads?) should be made on/about "main/related/connected" threads. However remote the definition of "related/connected".

Hi Ray, Thank you for that. I was just wanting to ensure I wasn't ticking people off and then have a system that would work well. So to link it to another post should I state ( similar post on newbie board etc?)

Hi

Krisesjoint the moderator of the Wiltshire board has said this . . . . .

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,60439.msg243586.html#msg243586
(please read it)

Which is, to me, exactly how you should tell people that things are going on elsewhere.
Make a post then copy  the url from above the thread.
Paste it into the other posts.

I have to stress that I am not talking on behalf of Rootschat.
There are other views . . . . .
