Jane Paterson-1853 -Ayshire,Scotland living in Manchester after 1851-Completed.

I am in a bit of a dilemma.I have never managed to find a marriage certificate for my great great uncle George Bailey born 1854,Ash,Shropshire and his supposed wife Jane Paterson(name obtained from one of the childrens birth certificates) who was born in 1853 in Ayshire,Scotland who were in Manchester from mid 1870s and lived in Robson Street,Hulme,Manchester in 1881.I know who George is but without a marriage I cannot possibly identify his wifes parentage at all although I believe she was in Manchester in 1871 working for the Mills family who were Grocers.There children were James(1879)-Hulme,Manchester and Margaret 1880 in same area.I have followed them okay from 1881 but I am stumped with Jane and I wonder where I can go to now.Any ideas?Have I missed that elusive marriage certificate or were they not married I wonder?Any help please??

Yes that is right but I cannot identify the family of Jane unfortunately from Scotland.I have been checking differnt families but each one comes with a dead end in Ayrshire.

Jane and James Mills were in Scotland in 1871 and together in  Hulme, Manchester in 1881 in Derby Street.

Yes that is right.In 1871 Jane is Manchester working for the Mills family who are grocers.she is listed as Jane Paterson born 1853 in Scotland and I am pretty sure it is her as George her future husband was a grocers assistant in 1881 in Manchester.they are living in Robson street in 1881.I have been eliminating different familes and each time I hit a brick wall and it is not Jane before 1871.I have looked at the personal messages I have received in regards the families and I have also now eliminated these also.As I cannot find a marriage certificate it is very difficult and my suspicion is they were never married but I could be wrong??Thank you to all those who have sent me information so far.
