Hello  :)

Was she a spinster on the marriage certificate? I would imagine she was, only about 20yrs old.
Were all the children registered with mother as Mulroney?
Do the witness names help at all? Family members?
It is difficult to say re the name - could have been misunderstood maybe.

Hello Heywood,

Thanks for your quick reply - much appreciated.

Mary was a spinster. Children were registered to Mary but spelling of her maiden name we’re all different spellings of Mulroney. Cannot comment re witness names but none of the two ring any bells.

With her being Irish and living in Yorkshire at the time of her marriage, they may not have understood her dialect.

What I’m struggling to ascertain is why she was in Addingham in 1853 when she was married.

Any ideas or how I can find out - suspect she was in service.

Women’s occupations were not often shown on marriage certificates.
If there is an address, you could check that for clues in 1851.
You could check the witnesses - the female one - were was she living in 1851. Was she in service?

Thanks for your help once again with this...may be in touch again in 8 years time.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the 1851 census and the address on the marriage certificate for both Edward and Mary just shows Addingham.
