How to unlink from a thread?
« on: Tuesday 21 August 12 12:37 BST (UK) »
Once I have made a post on a thread, all later posts by others cause it to appear in the list of unread posts when I re-enter.  Sometimes I have no more interest, having given my two pennorth.
Is there any way to disengage?

A Moderator would give the definitive answer, but I don't think there is.

The only solution would be that if you aren't interested in the thread any more, just leave it as unread.

When you get an email notifying you of new replies to a thread you have posted in, you will have a choice to view the topic or 'unsubscribe'. Select 'unsubscribe' and you will receive no more emails.

... or maybe unsubscribing will stop threads from appearing?  :-\ I don't have this problem because I never (or seldom) go to "show unread posts since last visit". I usually just 'hang around' the [Welcome] button on the bar at the top of the page where all the new posts appear.

Apologies if I have misinterpreted your dilemma.  :)

No - if you unsubscribe to emails the thread will still show when you check your unread posts.

oh I see.

Well the easiest solution I suppose is: don't bother to check your unread posts. Keep track of any threads you have contributed to via email nofitifcations, and unsubscribe if you no longer wish to be informed of replies to any threads.  :-\

I knew I'd seen it somewhere - chapter and verse from Berlin-Bob in the Beginners Section:

And by the way, that only applies to e-mail notifications;
sorry, but you cannot switch off entries in the
Show unread posts since last visit. or the Show new replies to your posts.  list.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,161799.0.html

and also here

Again:  (and again and again and again .......  Roll Eyes )

Clicking on "notify", whether on the topic, or in your profile
only affects the e-mail notification and nothing else !!

If there are topics in Show new replies to your posts.  that are rarely replied to, then clicking on them will cause them to be deleted from this list.

If they are topics with constant "traffic" (TOT Chat topics, for instance) then they will constantly re-appear.  Although if you click on any (now) locked topics, they will then also disappear, as nobody can add any new replies there.

Or when you have done with your topic, you should put "completed" after the subject heading  e.g. Edward Smith - completed - with clicking on "notify" button and save it. So everyone know you have done with your topic so no more messages

Is that right?
