Emma Matilda Grace Murly
« on: Tuesday 21 August 12 21:31 BST (UK) »
Emma's parents emigrated to America John Murly and Catherine around 1856 and settled in Mobile Alabama. I would like to find the birth/baptism details for Emma who was born in Mobile c1856. I would appreciate some help in locating these records.

kind regards

Steve

I have the completed the line from Emma to my grandmother. The missing piece of information is her birth/baptism date. I have been given the death details of Emma's parents who both died in Mobile. Emma and her brother were then returned to England to live with their grandparents in Dorset sometime between 1866 and 1871.

thanks for your reply

regards

Steve

HI Steve,

https://familysearch.org/ would usually be the better source of US records but unfortunately Alabama Births and Christenings only cover the period 1881 - 1930.
I don't know if Patrexjax would have that Alabama contact who helped you with the family in 2007 - have you made contact to find out if that is possible ?

http://www.archives.alabama.gov/referenc/vital.html

"Prior to 1908 some vital records were recorded at the county level. Generally this practice began around 1880 (though earlier in some counties and later in others)."

Their database shows no microfilms of birth records from Mobile County.

This says that no Alabama birth records were recorded by the government prior to 1881 - https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Alabama_Birth,_Marriage,_and_Death_Records#Before_1881

Unless there's a baptism record held by a church, unfortunately I think there's a good chance that what you're looking for doesn't exist.

thanks for the reply, I have miss placed some of my records and the replies have confirmed what I was lead to believe originally. I remember being asked to find out what religion the Murly's followed as this would help to identify a possible church, and it was this that I could not confirm.
